We are happy that our efforts have been noticed and that once again ADM has been recognized with the Respecting Differences Label by the Estonian Human Rights Centre and the Responsible Business Index Silver Label. With over 25 years in the market, we have always held our values, beliefs, and ethics in high regard here at ADM. Over the years, the importance of doing business responsibly has gained significant momentum globally as well. While these principles have always been integral to ADM’s operations, our participation in the Responsible Business Index and the Diverse Workplace Label programs has propelled us to new heights.
These initiatives have not only sharpened our focus on responsible business practices and diversity but also enhanced our strategies and corporate culture. Moreover, they have provided the opportunity to connect with like-minded businesses and individuals, fostering an environment where ideas are shared, and continuous improvement is encouraged. Through these programs, we have acquired the tools and insights necessary to excel year after year, ensuring we remain leaders in promoting responsible and inclusive business practices.
Understanding Responsible Business
In essence, a responsible business generates customer value by actively considering the well-being of people, adhering to ethical standards, promoting equity, and minimizing environmental impacts, all while maintaining profitability.
Since 2017, ADM has been honoured to carry the Estonian Responsible Business Index Label. In the meantime, we’ve worked hard and risen from bronze level to silver, with clear sights on the gold level for the future. Our current Silver Level indicates that we have systematically integrated the principles of responsible entrepreneurship into our core business. As the label itself states: Responsible entrepreneurship is the natural and voluntary integration of a company’s economic, environmental, and social dimensions into its day-to-day operations, management, and business strategy.
The Importance of Responsible Business
In today’s world, responsible business practices have become crucial for fostering trust and building a positive reputation. By prioritizing ethical standards, social equity, and environmental stewardship, companies can not only meet but exceed stakeholder expectations, enhancing their brand value and customer loyalty. For example, at ADM we have focused a lot on societal and environmental topics as well as responsible company governance. Among many other topics, we have and will continue contributing to national defence, rebuilding of Ukraine, human rights initiatives, and the physical and mental health of our team and their families. These practices contribute to long-term success by reducing risks, attracting top talent, and opening new market opportunities. Moreover, sustainable operations ensure the preservation of resources for future generations, making businesses more resilient and adaptable in a rapidly changing global economy. Ultimately, a commitment to responsibility sets the foundation for enduring growth and profitability.
Embracing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace
Responsible Entrepreneurship is strongly tied to DEI, another topic close to our hearts at ADM. Diversity involves valuing and welcoming each individual’s unique qualities, such as race, age, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, and other aspects of social identity. Equity means ensuring fair treatment and providing equal opportunities for all individuals. And Inclusion is about honouring everyone’s voice and fostering a culture where people from all backgrounds feel empowered to share their ideas and perspectives.
While the world is changing and the business environment becoming more international than ever, the topic has become one of the most important and talked about in the HR industry. ADM, as a company with international clients and teams from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, countries, ethnicities, and religions, offering both hybrid and full-remote work options and having team members from several generations, must keep this topic as a part of our strategy and culture.
The Diverse Workplace Label, recently referred to as the Respecting Differences Label, is a quality mark that shows the employer’s values: caring for its employees, customers, and partners, regardless of their differences or peculiarities, and contributing to the creation of a better society. The sign is a recognition and a development opportunity for all Estonian employers who value diversity and strive to create an inclusive work environment.
More than 5 years ago we began the project to receive the “Respecting Differences” Label administered by the Estonian Human Rights Centre in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications. Our motivation was deeply rooted in a desire to ensure that everyone at ADM could be their true selves at work while feeling genuinely included, safe, and supported without having to conceal their true identity. We understood that, like any community, our organization consists of real people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and needs. One of ADM 5 core values is caring about people, and this recognition is a statement to us that we are in fact giving our best to stand by our values.
Today, our focus extends to promoting both mental and physical health, gender equality, and balancing work and family life. We have established comprehensive support systems, including mentoring and coaching, as well as access to professional psychologists for our team members in work-related and personal concerns. Through these and other initiatives, we aim to create a holistic, supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
The Importance of Respecting Differences in the Workplace
A diverse and inclusive workplace brings numerous benefits, such as fostering creativity and innovation by incorporating a wide range of perspectives and ideas. Respecting differences enhances employee satisfaction and engagement, as individuals feel valued and supported. This inclusive environment can also improve team collaboration and problem-solving abilities, leading to more effective decision-making. Ultimately, embracing diversity and inclusion drives business success by attracting top talent, boosting productivity, and enhancing the company’s reputation.
Note from our CEO, Riho Pihelpuu:
ADM is all about people. I’ve always strived to build an environment where respect and care are paramount. In the IT sector, we have the opportunity to set an example for other industries in various aspects. When building a company with a long-term perspective, it is essential to create value not only for our clients, employees, and owners but also for the broader community and the environment. This is the environment where we want to grow and develop successfully, so collaboration and support for the community are crucial. Diversity brings different perspectives. People of varying ages, genders, cultures, and life experiences see problems and solutions from unique angles. This diversity of ideas fuels innovation and creates new opportunities. Firstly, it’s enriching and interesting to work with diverse individuals, learning from their viewpoints. At ADM, where various disciplines like strategy, IT development, marketing, and cloud technology intersect, diversity and the quest for new solutions are ingrained in our services, products, culture, and DNA. Programs, audits, and certifications such as the Responsible Business Index and Diverse Workplace Label provide valuable feedback on our direction and progress. They bring structure, best practices, and shared experiences that help us advance faster and enable us to offer advice to others, spreading good ideas and practices in this important matter.
