19. November
The course was created in 2018 by Reaktro and the University of Helsinki, and it was adapted to Estonian by TalTech. As of today, over 220 000 people from 110 countries have participated in the project by doing the online course. The course’s patron in Estonia is President Toomas Hendrik Ilves.
The purpose of the Estonian course is to help spread knowledge and skills related to artificial intelligence among as many people as possible from various different fields. The goal is to have at least one percent of the Estonian population participate in the project.
The Elements of AI online course can be found at www.elementsofai.com (www.elementsofai.ee for the Estonian version). To participate, you just need to create an account and then start doing the coursework. There is no time limit for completing the course and everyone who does complete it will be awarded a certificate and 2 ECTS.
Elements of AI was created by professors, data scientists and designers and it is considered to be one of the highest quality online courses in the world right now, including among those offered by the top universities (e.g. MIT, Stanford, Harvard).
In Estonia, nearly 30 companies and organisations have partnered up with the project, including Eesti Energia, Omniva, Tehnopol, Coop, Nordecon, Fujitsu, Silberauto, Restate Property Advisors, Datel, SEB, Estonian World, Estravel, Ericsson, Apollo, the Estonian Health Insurance Fund, Playtech, Tallink, Geenius, North Star AI, ITL, Rimi, Mainor Ülemiste, Apollo, the e-Governance Academy, Kredex and Kohtla-Järve Gymnasium. Additionally, Taltech is asking Estonian public sector organisations and schools to get involved and take part of the project to ensure that knowledge of AI is taught to kids and young people in schools early on as well.
